L'ultima volta che l'ho vista dal vivo le avevo appiccicato addosso troppe aspettative, mi aveva un po' deluso. Del resto non potevo aspettarmi la magia 'folle' che mi aveva trasmesso la prima volta, quasi un anno prima. Stesso tour, stesso ottimo back group (Dirty Delta Blues Band),quasi le stesse canzoni. Tra queste ,quella che spicco' fu Fortunate Son, stravolta, rivoltata in chiave blues dolente.
Ora (vabbe' da qualche mese) e' uscita questa appendice a “Jukebox”, secondo disco di cover della Gatta. E' un Ep con 6 brani: la title-track portata al successo da Aretha Franklin, la gia' citata “Fortunate son” dei Creedence Clearwater Revival, “Ye auld triangle” dei Pogues(!!!!), “I’ve been loving you too long (to stop now)” di Otis Redding, “We knows where the time goes” dei Fairport Convention (!!!!!!!!) e “It ain’t fair” sempre di Aretha Franklin.
Il risultato e' sempre di alto livello, brani stravolti come da copione ma noi fan vogliamo di più un album di inediti! A quando Chan?

L'ho scoperto ieri ma la notizia e' in giro da un po'
Cat Power(alias Chan Marshal) ha intenzione di fare uscire un nuovo album di cover, o meglio quasi tutte cover , un paio sono sue(Song to bobby dedicata a Dylan e Metal Heart)la tracklist e':
1. Theme From 'New York, New York' (Kander/Ebb; resa celebre da Frank Sinatra/Liza Minnelli)
2. Ramblin' (Wo)man (Hank Williams)
3. Metal Heart (Cat Power)
4. Silver Stallion (Lee Clayton)
5. Aretha, Sing One For Me (J Harris/Eugene William; cantata da George Jackson)
6. Lost Someone (James Brown)

ha una voce accattivante e nonostante l'aspetto da alcolizzata/trasandata che cerca di "tenersi" e il neo finto non puo' non catturare!
Lost someone l'ha eseguita anche a Milano , magica e bellissima.
Ultima osservazione: zero rispetto per le versioni originali come del resto il primo disco di cover. Come dire: i brani li fa suoi

Sorprendersi per un disco di cover non e' facile...
Al solito ognuno mette del suo e alle volte troppo.
Ma in questa colonna sonora, quella di I'm not there, film di cui ho gia' parlato, non c'e' un solo brano che mi ha deluso.
Grandi interpretazioni! Da eddie Vedder a Cat Power(da brividi!!!) a Riche Havens.
Sorprendenti accoppiate come Charlotte Gainsbourg + Calexico e bellissime riletture(stravolgimenti?) di Sufjan Stevens e Antony and the Johnsons.
Che dire di Mark Lanegan in the man in the long black coat? sembra scritta per lui!
Onore agli esecutori ma sono le canzoni che sono grandi!
